‘Black magic’ cemetery in Bukit Tunggal

KUALA TERENGGANU: The State Religious Department has been urged to set up a vigilante group to check and eradicate “black magic activities” that are purportedly rampant at a cemetery in Bukit Tunggal, Kuala Nerus, near here.

“These people have been trespassing into the cemetery at midnight to engage in necromancy,” Bukit Tunggal assemblyman Dr Alias Razak said here yesterday.

“These black magic practitioners know pretty well that the locals will avoid going near cemeteries in the wee hours of the morning.”

He said the activities went unnoticed until the recent discovery of witchcraft paraphernalia at the cemetery.

“Some residents were shocked to discover a white bundle at the cemetery during a gotong-royong last week. Initially, they thought it was the body of a newborn wrapped in a piece of cloth,” he said.

“But when they opened it, they found pepper, rotten eggs, soiled panties, lime, needles and rice. This act should be stopped at once.”

The locals lodged a police report fearing there could be more such items at the cemetery, Dr Alias said.

He urged the relevant religious bodies to also probe whether similar activities were practised in other cemeteries in the state.

“There are still those who believe in supernatural practices to obtain certain magical powers,” he said.

He suggested that a vigilante group comprising those with religious knowledge be established to check and stop such activities.
