Love triangle ends with body in car boot

MALACCA: Love turned deadly for an 18-year-old youth from Taman Seri Krubong late Thursday night when he was killed due to jealousy.

His battered body was found in a trunk of a car at about 1.15am yesterday by policemen manning a routine roadblock along Jalan Ayer Keroh leading to the toll exit of the North-South Expressway.

Six suspects, including the youth’s girlfriend and her brother have been picked up for questioning.

Prior to the gruesome discovery, the six-man police team had became suspicious when a car suddenly stopped on the roadside about 150m away before the roadblock.

A patrol car was sent to investigate before policemen found the body of the teenager in the boot after questioning four men in the car.

Police arrested all four and later picked up the victim’s girlfriend and her brother.

All six suspects, aged between 18 and 25, were remanded for seven days to assist in investigations.

Melaka Tengah OCPD ACP Salehhudin Abd Rahman said police recovered iron rods from the car.

Police believe the four suspects were on the way to dispose of the youth’s body and other evidence when they were caught.

The victim has been identified as Yap Wai Seng, a jobless youth from Taman Seri Krubong.

Initial investigations showed that the motive of the killing was relationship problems and jealousy.

The cause of death has yet to be ascertained pending a post mortem but there were strangulation marks around Yap’s neck, besides other injuries on his body.

ACP Salehhudin said the victim could have been killed in a house in Semabok before his body was thrown into the trunk of the car.

Yap was said to be living with his maternal grandparents after his mother remarried following the death of his father more than 10 years ago.

Yap’s mother, known only as Lee, was at the Malacca Hospital mortuary to claim his body. She said her relationship with her son had distanced over the years, adding that she last saw him on Thursday afternoon.
